Get Involved 2020-21: Model Castings

If you’re on the fence about trying out for model castings, read what last year's models, Nathan Stringer, Fraser Singh and Kirsty Low, have to say about the experience and why you should join GUCFS 2021 -  in aid of Glasgow’s Golden Generation!

How did you find out about and get involved with GUCFS?

Fraser: I heard about it through my sister when I was in first year… I ended up going to the show with my parents and I just knew I wanted to be part of it. I became a model through model castings, which was an interview at the union.

Nathan: One night during freshers’ week a girl who was on the committee came up to me and told me about the fashion show and said I should come along, so I thought why not?

Kirsty: During freshers’ week I was given a flyer about castings. I was thinking of doing it anyway because it seemed like such a fun thing to do. You don’t need a casting card anyone can come along!

What advice would you give to people wanting to apply?

F: [It is] 100% worth it, no matter what position you have in the society - just throw yourself in there.

N: Absolutely jump in, commit to everything, push yourself out of your comfort zone. I made such good friends; everyone was so nice the whole time.

K: Definitely get involved, it’s one of the best things I’ve done. It’s a great society to join. Socially, it’s amazing - you meet so many lovely people that are interested in similar things to you (quite creative people). Definitely do it.

How would you describe the experience?

N: I would describe the whole thing as empowering, I went in quite nervous about it all, didn’t know what I was getting myself into. Now that I’ve come through it all and done the show I’m a much more confident person, especially meeting new people. It’s such a fun experience, I never thought I would have been able to model before. I couldn’t recommend it highly enough to anyone else.

K: I loved my experience, I think it’s the best thing I’ve done at university… you get to meet so many kinds of different people you wouldn’t usually interact with, everyone is so nice and they just want to raise money for charity and it’s a great time.
