Get Involved 2020-21: Why Join GUCFS!

As summer gets underway and the autumn semester approaches, we are making plans to recruit a dedicated team of Brand Ambassadors (BAs) and Models, as well as increasing our membership base. In this blog post, we give you three great reasons why you should get involved in GUCFS 2020-21.

So, why should you get involved this year?

1. To be part of one of the U.K’s largest student fundraisers and support vital local causes that make a genuine impact on our community.

The main focus of GUCFS is our charitable partner and this is what drives the hard work undertaken throughout the year.

Bonnie Elliot- Johnson (BA 2019-20, Social Media Coordinator 2020-21):
“It is hugely rewarding to see all of the year’s hard work culminate in such an impressive show and to know the money raised will change the lives of those in need.”

2. To gain unrivalled professional skills in a university society that will greatly benefit your future career plans.

Within GUCFS, there are a range of teams to get involved in, each providing a platform to gain professional experience: sponsorship, marketing, production, charity, creative, and design. For example, in Marketing, there are roles in social media, PR, blogging and press. As a student, this is an invaluable opportunity to contribute to an online platform, which arguably rivals some businesses in its reach and influence.

Many students join GUCFS as BAs and progress through the society, finding their place in teams which support future their career goals. All of our current executive team and directors joined as BAs.

Bethany Henderson (BA 2019-20, Creative Fundraising Coordinator 2020-21):
“Becoming a Brand Ambassador (BA) in my first year of university inspired my passion and interest in the third sector. The role of BA allowed me to learn about the process of supporting and fundraising for a charity as well as understand the level of commitment needed to make a real impact and affect change. Being surrounded by a hard-working team and working in a professional environment developed my confidence, work ethic and sense of initiative - all of which are important for a future career in a professional environment including the third sector, which I’m now focused on.”

Raphaella Gordon-Saker (BA 2015-16, Womenswear 2016-17, Secretary 2017-18, President 2018-19):
“Being involved in GUCFS was undoubtedly the most valuable experience I had at university. I loved how it allowed me to use both my creative and strategic sides while making a tangible difference in society. I learnt so many invaluable skills during the four years I was involved; from leadership and collaboration, to project management and creating engaging campaigns and events, but the most important thing I took from GUCFS was confidence going into my career and not being afraid to think differently.”

3. To gain confidence and develop as an individual, being surrounded by a supportive and ambitious group of students.

GUCFS provides those involved with a network of ambitious, friendly and motivated students. Past and present members credit GUCFS with building confidence and making positive connections with other students on campus.

This year, GUCFS has appointed its first Welfare Convenor, to ensure that this society is a supportive and positive experience for all. We understand how daunting it can be to join a new society, but GUCFS 2020-21 is committed to making it the most inclusive it can be.

So, that’s three great reasons to join GUCFS! We hope you’re convinced and want to join us in our most exciting and innovative year to date.

Whilst our 2020-21 committee has already been elected, we are gearing up to recruit a team of Brand Ambassadors very soon and hold our Model Castings in the Autumn. Membership sign-ups will also be available in the new term.
